UM News Silver Show

In this edition of UM News, you'll see the Griz Football team, but off the field with Griz for Kids; a toy drive supporting local children. See how the College Republicans are helping troops overseas. Finally you'll see how tough it is to be Monte, UM's mascot, and howMissoula's professional Mixed Martial Arts fighters are making it big. Anchors Vince Bagby and Shaun Rainey took the hot seats in this segment while producer Brad Peers and director Matt Seder led the way.

Max Wave Fundraiser

People around the Missoula community are raising money in hopes of building another man-made kayaking spot similar to Brennan's Wave by Caras Park. Reporter Brad Peers and photographer Matt Seder found out the challenges with trying to raise half a million dollars.

UM Bike Thefts

Students are dealing with bike thefts on campus, and the UM Police are keeping track of each reported case. Students can register their bikes with the Office of Public Safety to help them if their bikes get stolen. Police suggest using U-locks instead of cable locks to secure bikes. Reporter, Gillette Vaira, and photographer, Matt Seder, discovered how one student has dealt with the loss of his bike outside the University Center on campus.

The Nutcracker

The Garden City Ballet keeps the tradition of the holiday season alive with their annual performance of the Nutcracker. This is their 25th anniversary putting on the show. Reporter Brad Peers and photographer Matt Seder found out what makes the show so special.

UM Silver Show

Welcome to Silver's October 20 edition of UM News. Anchors Katie Mansfield and Shaun Rainey take viewers into the plans and pitch of a new sustainability effort on the UM campus, to the far reaches of the world at a technology seminar, to a class that teaches "old folks new tricks," and to the heart pounding, music pumping class of Zumba! This show was brought together by Producer Vince Bagby and Director Matt Seder.

UM Paleontology Center

Faculty, staff, and students at the UM Paleontology Center are spreading the word about fossils in order to explain state, national, and international history. This week, they hosted an event to celebrate the first National Fossil Day. But on a regular day, researchers study hidden fossils in their basement. Photographer, Matt Seder, and reporter, Gillette Vaira, found out what one graduate student is digging up.

Mayor Engen's Class

Missoula Mayor John Engen teaches a political science seminar at UM that brings in public officials from across the state and country. The Mansfield Center makes this class possible in order to provide students with leadership skills. Reporter Gillette Vaira and photographer Matt Seder found out what students learn from the city's boss.

Native Student Retention

The University of Montana is currently home to the largest number of self-identified Native American students its ever had. However the University is worried that many of those students won't make it to graduation. Reporter Vince Bagby and photographer Matt Seder found out what the University is doing to keep those students in school.
