Tajik Students at UM

The University has expanded it's international programs and activity, Reporter Shande Wiest and photographer Scott Youngbauer found out how by taking a closer look at the Tajik culture.

Student Art Exhibit

The 15th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit is currently being displayed at the Gallery of Visual Arts on campus.Two hundred hopeful artists submitted entries and the show accepted eighty four of them. UM News reporter Shande Wiest and photographer Dariga Massenova take a closer look at one of the students who submitted into the exhibit.



The art exhibit will be open till November 20th at the Gallery of Visual Arts, viewing hours are 11-5 Tuesday, Wednesday Friday and 11-6 on Thursdays.

Cleaning Going Green

The University of Montana has been working hard to provide a greener campus. This also extends to the products used to help keep the campus clean. An army of people scour the University day and night to keep it spotless. Photographer Grant Beaudette and reporter Shande Wiest found out how they are being cleaner and greener.





The environmental impact on trees and the water supply is reduced when using green chemicals. The green cleaning committee hopes to pass a campus wide policy by December.

Swapping Books for Snorkels

The University of Montana offers a variety of classes. UM News photographer Grant Beaudette and reporter Shande Wiest found out about one class in particular that really is sink or swim.







Open water SCUBA certification is offered through the university for 1 Health & Human Performance credit. After the students pass all the written training they go to Peak Health and Wellness Center for the pool training. Upon completion of the course students will be eligible to participate in PADI certification: (Professional Association of Dive Instructors).

What does winter have in store?

Missoula is starting to get colder and the winter season is right around the corner. Reporter Shande Wiest and photographer Grant Beaudette asked the National Weather Service what this year has in store for snow conditions and what the UM Outdoor Program has available for students who want to have fun in the cold.




There will be a used outdoor gear sale Oct. 15th from 12pm to 5pm at the UC. Snowboard maintenance class Nov. 4 at 6:00 pm for $5.00, Ski maintenance class Nov. 18th at 6:00pm

Professor of Human Sexuality Dr. Lindsey Doe has opened Montana's first sexual health center. Doe feels that sexuality is an integral part of a person's health and wellbeing. Her misson is to guide people to a happier and healthier sexuality. Reporter Shande Wiest and photographer Carmen Ebert found out where Missoula can learn more about sexual health.









Bird's and Bee's LLC offers workshops, private counseling, support groups, films, referral services, sex coaching, body therapy, a lending library, and special events for sexual expression.

Research in Kenya

Wildlife biology junior Wesley Scarmento received a $5,000 research grant to study gazelles in Kenya. UM News reporter Shande Wiest and photographer Dariga Massenova found out what he is up to now and the importance of understanding disease transmission between animals and humans.
