A new music band DARSHAN PULSE

Darshan is a Hindi word that means "an epiphany that comes about by being filled with divine light". In November a new band with a catchy name hit the stage of a local pub Sean Kelly's. Darshan Pulse sings about the world being watched and expresses their vision of today's status quo. Reporter Dariga Massenova talked to bandmates Greham Woolley and Brandt Miller about their concept album Panopticon that is planned to be released in January.

Student Art Exhibit

The 15th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit is currently being displayed at the Gallery of Visual Arts on campus.Two hundred hopeful artists submitted entries and the show accepted eighty four of them. UM News reporter Shande Wiest and photographer Dariga Massenova take a closer look at one of the students who submitted into the exhibit.



The art exhibit will be open till November 20th at the Gallery of Visual Arts, viewing hours are 11-5 Tuesday, Wednesday Friday and 11-6 on Thursdays.

Geocaching

Students on the University of Montana campus participate in many extra-curricular activities. UM Geography student Eric Leinonen showed Reporter Marnee Banks and Photographer Dariga Massenova how he often spends his free time. Leinonen led the two on a high-tech treasure hunt called geocaching. Leinonen’s Professor, Sarah Halvorson, also geocaches and explained the inner workings of the glorified hide and seek.

New Curtains for a New Dance Season

The School of Theatre and Dance at the UM's College of Visual and Performing Arts uses new curtains for their performances this season. Former costume shop manager Elizabeth Kester says she still keeps busy, even after 30 years of working at UM. Her most recent project is making curtains for the dance studio at the PARTV building. UM News reporter/photographer Dariga Massenova takes us to the action behind the scenes.

Dumpster Dive

A student group on campus decided to promote climate change awareness by spreading garbage all over the Oval. Climate Action Now! participated in Global Climate Change Week by completing a dumpster dive. A dumpster dive involves taking a sampling of garbage from dumpsters on campus and sorting out the recycling from the true trash. More specifically, the group was looking for recyclable plastics, tin, and aluminum- all materials commonly thrown away on college campuses. Photographer Dariga Massenova and reporter Drew Trafton help "sort out" the story.

Homecoming quilt

Homecoming came to an end last week but it doesn't mean the "coming home feeling" has to end. Reporter Jannette Hoerner and Photographer Dariga Massenova found a way for someone to take a piece of Homecoming with them.


Tickets sales last up through November 14th and can be purchased at the Alumni office, home and away griz football tailgates, other event locations or by calling 243-5211. The proceeds go back to the Alumni Association to pay for Homecoming events and activities. Prices for tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.

Research in Kenya

Wildlife biology junior Wesley Scarmento received a $5,000 research grant to study gazelles in Kenya. UM News reporter Shande Wiest and photographer Dariga Massenova found out what he is up to now and the importance of understanding disease transmission between animals and humans.

UM belly dance teacher wins top spot

She shook and shimmied her way to the top.
UM Dance instructor Kelli Marie Neumayer was number one at Wiggles of the West belly dancing competition in Las Vegas. UM News reporter Rose Stepanek and photographer Dariga Massenova talked to Neumayer about her experience and how it can affect her teaching methods.
