College Living with Diabetes

November is American Diabetes Month. Reporter Marnee Banks and Photographer Daniel Ryan caught up with one UM student, Luke Bahnmaier, who shared his experience in coping with the highs and lows of this disease. Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education, Dr. Vernon Grund, also shed light on the effects of diabetes.

Veterans Transitioning to College

Just under 500 veterans utilize the Veterans Affairs Office on the University of Montana campus. Reporter Marnee Banks and Photographer Daniel Ryan visited the office and spoke with Coordinator Justin Raap to find out how the University is helping vets transition from combat to civilian life.

The ABC's of Biodiesel

Researchers at the Bio-Energy Innovation and Testing Center are giving students the ability to turn fast food waste into an alternative fuel for vehicles. Reporter Daniel Ryan stopped by the College of Technology to see how fast food french fries are helping create the fuel of tomorrow.

The Effects of Speech Therapy

A year ago two year old Tyler Schrekendgust fell from a three story building triggering two seizures, and damaging the left side of his brain. Reporter Marnee Banks and Photographer Daniel Ryan learned how UM's Communicative Science Disorders program is educating students so they can help children like Tyler overcome the impossible.

Clintons Concert

The Clintons played a free concert on the University of Montana campus celebrating the ban on smoking in all Montana bars, casinos, and restaurants. Band members John McLellan and Josh Keehr teamed up with the IGNITE program encouraging the movement toward a smoke free campus. Reporter Katrina Heser and photographer Daniel Ryan tuned in to hear the message behind the music.

SpectrUM Discovery Area

Slime, eyeballs, and giant noses help teach kids about science at the University of Montana's SpectrUM Discovery Area. The interactive science museum is currently showcasing the Hands on Health exhibit, which educates kids about health and exercise science. UM News reporter Marnee Banks and photographer Daniel Ryan explored SpectrUM and the current exhibit.

UM upgrades classroom technology

A change in technology across campus classrooms is changing the way professors teach. The project will cost nearly $1.9 million and is scheduled to be completed by the 2015 school year. UM News reporter Daniel Ryan found out how the change is benefiting professors and enhancing their course content.
